    In this Patient-Clinician Connection, Dr. Gianluigi Savarese uses a clinical case to demonstrate shared decision-making strategies for managing chronic and recurrent hyperkalemia in patients with chronic kidney disease and heart failure receiving guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT). The discussion examines how to address patient concerns about hyperkalemia while supporting the continued use of evidence-based therapies that improve cardiovascular outcomes. Practical considerations for potassium management, including the role of oral potassium binders and individualized treatment planning, are also reviewed.

    • Apply effective shared decision-making strategies to individualize chronic hyperkalemia management in patients with heart failure, including the appropriate integration of oral potassium binders to support continuation and optimization of guideline-directed medical therapy (GDMT)
